Spring Feast for the senses

Spring Feast for the senses

A feast of artworks will be installed next month at Lazy River Estate, with artists from Dubbo, Narromine and Gilgandra plating up their offerings as part of the Lazy River Feast on 25 September which includes a food and music event. All the artists involved are members of Fresh Arts Inc.

Fresh Arts formed in 2003 as an informal support group for local artists and now functions as an organised collective who regularly exhibit together. The theme of next month’s exhibition is “feast”.

Curator of the Feast exhibition and Dubbo-based artist, Kim Goldsmith said the upcoming Lazy River event was a great opportunity for artists to have some fun with an idea, using a broad range of mediums.

“Some of the works I have seen to date include a beautiful installation piece from Lea Tucker, a delicate watercolour painting by Leanne Watt and a colourful characterisation of rock lobsters by Lara Scolari. Jack Randell is contributing a new work, straight on the back of a successful residency and showing in Sydney.

“The treatment of the theme has been incredibly varied, all appealing in some way to the senses of sight, taste, sound and more. A work by Ken Tucker explores the idea of a musical feast and Lou Lindsay has created a sumptuous visual feast of colour and flesh in paint. Anne Greenaway has been more literal in her interpretation of the theme, using food as the subject and bright colour in a digital medium,” said Ms Goldsmith.

Coordinator of the exhibition and Fresh Arts vice-president, Rita Bruce said the exhibition is being greatly anticipated by all who are involved.

“We have about 20 artists contributing to this show, which is half of our members; it takes a fair bit of organising,” she said. “However, we have seven years of exhibitions behind us and Fresh Arts shows have proven to be very popular with art lovers and artists alike. We’re looking forward to a great opening,” said Mrs Bruce.

The opening of Feast will be at 3pm on Saturday, 25 September at Lazy River Estate. It will be preceded by a food event at the restaurant/café and followed by music on the green. Opening the exhibition will be artist and TAFE NSW Western Institute’s Head Teacher Arts and Media for Dubbo and the North West, Mary Dorahy.

Feast will run from 25 September – 4 November 2010. The gallery is open Friday - Sunday 10am-4pm.

The exhibiting artists include: Jack Randell, Lou Lindsay, Ken Tucker, Lea Tucker, Rita Bruce, Tamara Lawry, Anne Greenaway, Leanne Watt, Penny Volkofsky, Merryn Spencer, Nathan Shooter, Lara Scolari, Noelene Rawson, Vicki Gainsford, Rowena Galway, Emma Bradshaw, Kieth Yap, Laura Holland and Penny Volkofsky.
