Uniting and Raising the Profile of NSW Farming Women - Canowindra

There is a free workshop called "Uniting and Raising the Profile of NSW Farming Women" being held in Canowindra on Friday September 3rd.

It is a facilitated, interactive, one-day workshop aimed at encouraging rural women to build leadership and representative skills to support their communities, industries and regions.

The workshop is open to all women of all ages and walks of life in rural areas. Senior high school students could also benefit from the workshops.

All materials, meals are provided free of charge. One night's accommodation can also be provided where participants travel considerable distances to attend.

WFI International Fellowship Program

WFI International Fellowship Program - Term: 6-12 months - Applications accepted year-round.  
The WFI Fellowship brings professionals in natural resources--such as foresters, environmental educators, land managers, NGO practioners and researchers--to conduct a practical research project at the World Forestry Center.  In addition to projects, Fellows participate in weekly field trips, interviews and site visits to Northwest forestry organizations, state, local and national parks, universities, public and private timberlands, trade associations, mills, and corporations.  The Fellowship is a unique opportunity to learn about sustainable forestry from the Pacific Northwest forestry sector, and to work with colleagues from around the world.  Fellowships are open to any country (including the U.S.), and there is a matching grant from the Harry A. Connar McShane from James Cook University in Townsville, North Queensland is conducting a survey that asks questions about life on the farm, specifically in relation to issues surrounding work, family, and current challenges faced by farming families of Australia.

Growers and graziers (e.g. horticulture, agriculture, livestock, dairy etc.) as well as any member of a farming family (currently involved with the farm) are invited to participate. Feedback is needed from both women and men, so feel free to encourage your partner and other family members to participate.

2010 NSW RURAL WOMEN’S GATHERING
29-31 October 2010 @ Wentworth

Wentworth is gearing up for a fantastic weekend of Poodle skirts, bobbie socks and big
hair, and entertainment that will take the Baby-boomers back to the rockn’ 50s! But it
won’t be all rock’n’roll.

The weekend will feature guest speakers such as Susan Chase
2009 Telstra SA Business Woman of the Year, as well as Bronwyn Roberts who will have
you laughing in the aisles all weekend - laughing is great medicine! Desiree Baynes, our Australian Olympic
Medallist in shooting, will show off her medals as she mingles with guests during the Saturday Gala Dinner.

The night will be capped off with an award winning custom performance by “Ratbagz” with their interpretation
of “Greece is the Word”, a ridiculous send up of the classic 50s high school musical with a lot of fun.

CAREER PATHWAYS RESEARCH:
WORK-RELATED THINKING STYLES & CAREER SATISFACTION

I am carrying out a worldwide study of the relationship between career pathways and thinking styles at all levels of management. Please consider completing some brief surveys - it takes approximately 10 minutes, and is totally anonymous. All responses are untraceable.

This project is part of my research to achieve a PhD at the University of Wollongong. Last year, 250 women completed my first survey and my findings were published by the Australian Psychological Society.  

Psychologists have shown that we develop life-long styles of explaining events. I now need the help of 1000 male and female volunteers  to complete a questionnaire that looks at the ways we explain work-related events. These are 16 situations that can take place in any organisation or team. However, if you are self-employed or retired, simply imagine you are in each situation. There are also questions about self-esteem at work, career satisfaction and everyday happiness.  

There is a huge amount of evidence that an optimistic explanatory style increases chances of success in sales, education, politics, sport and mental health. However, no previous study has investigated the relationship to management levels.  Your responses, simply giving ratings for 63 statements, can be submitted anonymously at the following website: www.surveymonkey.com/s/76XC7KG
